“There are things that we don’t teach children, students, and for that matter, adults about the responsibilities that we have as grown-ups. We have a responsibility to craft the life that we want. We have a responsibility to sow the seeds of discipline and organization to get there. We have a responsibility to invest in, grow, and maintain our relationships with others. And lastly, we have that same responsibility towards ourselves. Our happiness is a part of that relationship with ourselves and doesn’t just happen. Like any other relationship, we must invest in it, cultivate it and grow it. Our happiness is our responsibility.”

What inspires you?

Space, the oceans, exploration, and pushing the limits.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

An astronaut, a brain surgeon, a superhero, and a billionaire.

Which subjects did you enjoy at school?

Math, English, French, Chemistry

What would you like to tell your younger self?

Discipline is one of the most important life skills you will ever develop.

Why did you choose STEM?

I chose STEM because there are so many boundaries in science that remain to be explored.

How important is it for you to stand out?

It is not something that I seek to do; rather it is ingrained in me.

What difficulties did you face in the industry, as a woman?

I have faced my fair share of harassment in medicine, and it has strengthened my resolve that it should not happen to anyone who follows.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female scientists?

Act like you belong here. Because you do.
